Background Information

Na Tong is an extremely difficult border commune of Dien Bien district. The commune is divided into 15 villages, with 5 ethnic groups, most of which are Thai and Mong people. The main income of the people here is mainly based on agriculture and raising cattle and poultry.

The socio-economic development situation of the commune is still facing many difficulties. The agricultural production area is mainly wet rice, upland fields grow corn, cassava, beans, peanuts, so the poverty rate is high. 

The total number of households in the commune is 1048 households, with 4792 people; the number of poor households is 336/1048, accounting for 32.1%; near-poor households: 52/1048, accounting for 5.0%.

Na Tong commune has 04 schools (02 kindergartens, 02 primary schools)

Na Tong nursery school

Na Tong nursery school was established in 2009.  The school is 35 km from the district center. 

The total number of teachers and staff is 24 people (the Board of Directors: 03; Teachers: 18; Staff: 03). There are 06 classes with 150 students in the school year 2022- 2023. In the next school year, the number is estimated to remain 06 classrooms – 148 students. 

Concerning facilities, the school includes: 

  • 04 permanent classrooms\
  • 02 rooms for the managing board
  • 01 computer room
  • 02 degraded semi-permanent toilets

Needs for construction/ repair

New construction:

  • 02 permanent classrooms 
  • 01 new medical room (the school now does not have any medical room)\
  • 01 new 2 - compartment toilet

Though the school is small and lacking in facilities, it had a very good impression on how the teachers take care of and decorate the school.
